''Larry Coryell at the Village Gate'' is a live album by Larry Coryell, recorded with his band and then-wife Julie Coryell (the couple divorced in 1985; she died in 2009)〔''Julie Coryell, Jazz-Rock Historian, Dies at 61'', The New York Times, May 28, 2009〕 on January 21 & 22, 1971 at the Village Gate in New York City. It was released on Vanguard Records (VSD 6573). This was the first album of his that his that Julie Coryell sang on. It also contained a cover of a Jack Bruce song. whom Coryell had toured with in 1968 as part of the Jack Bruce and Friends tour.〔''Jazz Rock: A History'', by Stuart Nicholson, Schirmer Books, New York, 1998, p.53〕〔''The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock'', ed. by Nick Logan & Bob Woffinden of New Musical Express, Harmony Books-Salamander Books, London, 1976, p.44〕 Rolling Stone stated the album showed Coryell with a power-trio in rock form.〔''The Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide'', ed. John Swenson, Random House, New York, 1985, p.51〕In his semi-autobiography,〔''Improvising: My Life in Music'', Larry Coryell, Hal Leonard Corp-Backbeat Books, Milwaukee, 2007, p.83〕 Larry stated that Bronson and Wilkinson formed a tight rhythm-section, although it may seem an odd combination.
